Manuscript CritiqueCaitlin Scarano—MFA, residency, and fellowship application materials and writing coaching
Open to: MFA, residency, and fellowship application materials and writing coaching
Process: My process is responsive, supportive, and direct. I want to help writers achieve their goals.
I can provide feedback and guidance on MFA, residency, fellowship, and grant applications materials, including personal statements, project proposals, writing samples, CVs, teaching statements, and more. This feedback can be specific to individual materials and/or the application as a whole. I have an MFA and PhD in creative writing and have attended numerous writing residencies, retreats and conferences. From these experiences, I’ve learned a lot about what works well (and not so well) when it comes to the application process.
I have demonstrated success in helping writers develop a strategy for submitting to literary magazines and journals as well as helping writers draft, structure, and submit a full-length collection of poems or poetry chapbooks.
Praise from Past Clients:
Caitlin was excellent to work with! I would not have found acceptance to several MFA programs without them. Considering my background in field ecology, compiling application materials alone felt difficult. However, Caitlin guided me toward a statement of purpose I was proud to submit, focusing on how my experiences contribute to my abilities as a writer. Additionally, her feedback on my writing sample was mindful and genuine; I am a better poet from her insights." —Nicolette R.
My writing took a huge leap in strength and clarity as a direct result of Caitlin’s coaching. Her detailed attention and questions challenged me to think more deeply and write better. Working with Caitlin is both fun and rewarding. —Richard W.
