What You’ll Submit: MFA application personal statements and/or statements of purpose, residency and fellowship personal statements, artist statements, short fiction, flash fiction, and prose poems. ​Kathryn will look at individual MFA and residency statements (typically 2–10 pages), individual short stories, and/or full manuscripts. 

Kathryn enjoys working with writers at every stage of their career and is particularly interested in helping emerging writers find their authentic voice and clearly articulate their writing goals. She is excited to read personal statements, short fiction, flash fiction, and prose poems.

What You’ll Get:

MFA or Residency Applications: Supporting materials such as the personal statement, artist statement, and writing sample will be closely read and critiqued. 

Short Stories/Collections/Fiction: A thoughtful and intensive reading of your work. 

Critique Details: Everything you submit—MFA and residency application supporting materials, short stories, collections, or all of the above—will be closely read. You will receive a 2–4 page letter in response offering comments and highlighting the strengths in the writing as well as suggestions for revision. In addition, the work you submit will be digitally edited using Microsoft Word's Track Changes. The critique will include a brief follow up meeting by phone or in person to ask questions and discuss additional concerns. 

Pricing: Loft manuscript critique consists of a flat base price, plus a per word fee. You can enter your word count below and the system will calculate your price. 

  • $300 (base price) + 2 cents/word

Kathryn will also review and help you improve your MFA application materials: $280

  • MFA supporting materials: 2 weeks
  • Up to 3,000 words: 1 week
  • Up to 10,000 words: 2 weeks
  • Up to 25,000 words: 3 weeks
  • Up to 50,000 words: 4 weeks
  • Up to 100,000 words: 6 weeks
