Join award-winning poet and spoken word artist Patricia Smith for an intimate evening of poetry and conversation in support of The Loft Literary Center on Saturday, November 7, at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in Saint Paul. Smith's latest work, The Intentions of Thunder: New and Selected Poems (Scribner 2025), won the 2025 National Book Award for Poetry, was a finalist for the 2026 Pulitzer Prize, and won the 2026 NAACP Image Award for Poetry. Smith is also a four-time individual champion of the National Poetry Slam, the most successful poet in the competition’s history.

This special event features readings and a far-ranging conversation between Smith and the Loft’s Executive and Artistic Director Arleta Little. A book signing and reception will follow.

Presented in partnership with Hope Arts Center and taking place at House of Hope Presbyterian Church, this evening promises reflection, connection, and the transformative power of poetry.
