African American Voices in Children’s Literature Writing Contest

Free Spirit and Strive Publishing are looking for African American authors based in Minnesota to submit manuscripts for children’s books. Here is a brief overview of the contest details:

• Open to authors of African American heritage currently residing in Minnesota

• Deadline for entries is June 30, 2019

• Submit original fiction or nonfiction children’s stories for a picture book

• Awards will be given to first-, second-, and third-place winners

  • First place: $1,000 cash prize and a meeting with Mary Taris, founder of Strive, and an editor at Free Spirit to discuss his or her project.

  • Second place: $500 cash prize

  • Third place: $250 cash prize
