Black Warrior Review’s annual contests are open!

Black Warrior Review is now accepting contest submissions in Poetry, Fiction, Nonfiction, and Flash, through September 1, 2019! 

Winners in Poetry, Fiction, and Nonfiction will receive $1,500 each and publication in our Fall issue. The $20 domestic contest fee for these categories includes a year-long subscription to BWR. The winner in Flash will receive $800 and publication. The contest fee in that category is only $8.

We are delighted to have as final judges Tommy Pico (Poetry), Rivers Solomon (Fiction), Selah Saterstrom (Nonfiction), Vi Khi Nao (Flash).

Established in 1974 by graduate students in the University of Alabama’s MFA Program in Creative Writing, BWR is the oldest continuously-run literary journal produced by graduate students in the United States. Work appearing in BWR has been reprinted in the Pushcart Prize series, Best American Short Stories, Best American Poetry, PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize, New Stories from the South, and other anthologies.
