Split Rock Review Seeks Submissions for Issue 14

SPLIT ROCK REVIEW seeks submissions of poetry, short creative nonfiction, comics, graphic stories, hybrids/visual poetry, photography, and art that explore place, environment, and the relationship between humans and nature for issue 14 (Spring 2020).

JOURNAL SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • We only accept submissions via Submittable: www.splitrockreview.submittable.com 

  • Please only submit once per reading period for consideration in Issue 14.

  • We do not accept works of translation or previously published work for our journal issues. Sorry. 

  • No manuscript edits or revisions will be considered during the reading period.

  • We accept simultaneous submissions. However, please withdraw your work immediately should a piece you’ve submitted be accepted elsewhere. If you are withdrawing your entire submission, please log in to your Submittable account and click “Withdraw.” If you need to withdraw part of your submission, open it within Submittable and "Add" a note indicating the piece or pieces you'd like to withdraw. We will see your note and gladly consider the available work.

  • There is a minimum $2.00 submission fee.

  • Unfortunately, we cannot pay our journal contributors; however, we do our best to promote our writers/artists and their work.

POETRY

  • Submit one to six poems in a single Word doc, docx, or PDF file.

  • Poems should be single-spaced, or how the poems should appear on the page.

  • Start each poem on a new page.

  • We do not accept translation, erotica, or fantasy.

SHORT CREATIVE NONFICTION 

  • Submit one to three creative nonfiction stories in a single Word doc, docx, or PDF file.

  • Do not submit multiple stories in separate files.

  • Start each story on a new page.

  • Double-space your manuscript, or how it should appear on the page.

  • Each story should not exceed 1,000 words in length.

  • We do not accept translation, erotic, fantasy, YA, or self-help.

COMICS & GRAPHIC STORIES

We accept comics and graphic stories. We prefer work that is character and narrative driven that also explores place, environment, and the relationship between humans and nature.

  • Submit up to 15 files (JPG, PNG, PDF).

  • We publish black/white and color.

  • If your work is accepted, we may ask you to send us a high-resolution image for publication.

PHOTOGRAPHY & ART

We are always seeking photography and art (painting, illustrations, multi-media) that explore place, environment, and the relationship between humans and nature.

  • Submit up to 10 images (JPG, PNG, PDF)

  • We publish in black/white and color.

  • If your work is accepted, we may ask you to send us a high-resolution image for publication.

HYBRIDS & VISUAL POETRY

We welcome any and all interpretations of hybrids and visual poetry—found, collages, erasures, obliteratures, asemic writing, whatever you want to call them. Surprise us!

  • Submit up to 10 files (JPG, PNG, PDF, or Word)

  • We publish black/white and color.

  • If your work is accepted, we may ask you to send us a high-resolution image for publication.
