Creative Process with Brain

In this course, we will focus the process of producing effective writing. There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to creative writing. We will experiment with different genres of shorter writing: poetry, the story, and the essay. All of the students will take on these pieces, but our main focus will be on developing a writing process that helps you find your strength and weaknesses, where you struggle and where you succeed. We'll consider writing more structured ways but also writing processes which are not linear. Our goal is for you to have a better understanding of what processes work best for you, but we'll also find ways to shift strategies if you find yourself stuck. I hope you will not only from me, but from your classmates.

In this class students will:
-Be familiarized with elements of the writing process (drafting, revising, editing) and the elements of a written text: language, syntax, structure, and subject
-Discuss process in creating drafts, and analyze how well students' process helped them achieve their aim and what adjustments might be made.
