Fiction with open book and stars

Sensibility is how character reflects through the point of view. It's the choices a voice makes about what to describe and how to describe it. In this class we'll look at some distinctive voices and try to figure out how character comes through just in the way they show us the world. (Hint: This happens through the senses!)

Then we'll do some concrete writing exercises to practice descriptive writing that reveals not just the world of the story, but the character who is experiencing that world. Sample reading will include texts by writers like Megan Giddings, Yiyun Li, and Carmen Maria Machado. This class is appropriate for those working in prose, whether fiction or creative nonfiction.
