ClassCraft Seminar: A Poem's Heat Map
Join Maria Giesbrecht in a generative writing workshop that explores how poems generate heat, emotional intensity, urgency, and momentum, through craft. Borrowing framework from weather maps, we will consider where energy concentrates within a poem, how pressure systems form through image and sound, and how subtle shifts in language can raise or release emotional temperature.
We’ll read selected poems by Richard Siken, Linda Pastan, Ellen Bass, and Danusha Laméris, examining the techniques these writers use to build resonance and sustain tension. Writers will leave with three new poem drafts developed during the session. We’ll conclude with dedicated time for sharing and discussion in a supportive environment. Writers at all levels are welcome.
