Intermediate Poetry: Deepen Your Craft

Ready to take your writing to the next level? Looking for meaningful, generous feedback from your peers?

In this generative class, we will look closely at remarkably well-made poems and discuss how they work and move. After learning all we can from poets like John Murillo, Ellen Bass, Natasha Rao, Ryan Tietman, Danusha Lameris, and others, we will write our own poems, putting to use what we've learned about poetic structure. Then, we will share our work and offer one another feedback (verbal), keeping an eye on generosity and utility. Our goal, after all, is to be of service to one another.

All the while, we will continue to refine our understanding and use of craft, including music, metaphor, image, poetic leaps, and form. You can expect to leave with several new drafts, feedback from peers and the instructor, and ever-evolving skills as a workshop member.

In this class, students will:
-Create an inclusive, curious, and attentive community that supports peers in their work
-Explores and deepen their understanding of craft
-Carve out time to produce new work
-Learn to engage meaningfully as workshop members and peers
