Scenes: The Secret to Writing Stronger First Drafts

Scenes are the building blocks of fiction, whether you’re writing a 500-page novel or a 5-page short story. They’re also the secret to breaking down your writing projects into smaller, more manageable tasks. This class will explain what a scene is, how to start and end scenes, and how to put different kinds of scenes together to make a story. By the end of class you’ll understand how to break your story idea down into scenes, giving you clear steps to take when you sit down to write and helping you produce a cleaner, stronger first draft of your story or novel.

In this class, students will:
-increase understanding of what a scene is, what different kinds of scenes there are, and how scenes fit together to create a story that takes readers on a clear and engaging journey
