ClassAdaptation Lab: A Loft x FilmNorth Collaboration
So much of what we see on the screen had a first and a second life on the written page as a literary work and then as a screenplay. Adaptation Lab will engage writers in examining the process of adapting literary work for the screen by learning from writers and directors who have done it.
This pilot class will examine the adaptation of the Minnesota-made 1989 short story, "A Gravestone Made of Wheat" by Will Weaver into the 2005 dramatic film Sweet Land, written and directed by Ali Selim. Instructors Andrew Peterson of FilmNorth and Arleta Little of the Loft will welcome Ali Selim and Will Weaver to discuss the story, the film, and the process of its adaptation from literary work to screen play to film.
Have you written a story that wants to be a film? This learning partnership between the Loft and FilmNorth will show you how. This small-cohort pilot class will be open to 15 adult writers. The class will take place in FilmNorth’s state of the art theater. Limited seats available.
Please submit this request form at least two to three weeks in advance if you have any accessibility requests for this class. This class takes place in-person, at FilmNorth. Please see the Loft’s website for the most up to date information about the Loft’s COVID policies.
