Current Class List

Loft Classes Through December 31

No classes will take place in Loft physical spaces now through December 31, 2020. All classes will be released on a rolling basis each month on our website.

All adult in-person classes taking place during the Loft's fall term — September–December, 2020 — will move to live meetings in virtual spaces using Zoom, with some also using Google Classroom as a learning enhancement. Students will need to have, or create, a Gmail account in order to access Google Classroom and the supplemental class materials posted there. Each class will be assigned a Loft staff member as “classroom host” to help with questions or issues that may arise with having classes online. It is also likely that classes will develop their own email listservs, but that will be up to the teaching artist's discretion. This includes all meetings of the 2020 Poetry-, Creative Nonfiction/Memoir,- and Novel Writing Projects.

The Loft has been offering online classes since 2011 using an online learning platform (called Moodle) that does not typically include live video conference meetings and allows students to login any time during the week to participate. Classes with this format will now use Wet.Ink instead of Moodle. Wet.Ink is a platform designed just for writers. "Online-flex schedule" means you can take the class on your own schedule in Wet.Ink, without live meetings. Most of these classes involve more sharing of writing with feedback from your classmates and the teaching artist as well as text-based lectures and discussions.

"Online-live" are classes offered in real time with live video conference meetings.

Each class will have specific instructions for access once you register. If you have questions, feel free to call us at 612-379-8999 or edu@loft.org.

Testimonials from our virtual classes conducted by video conference.

"It works—an effective way to learn and to have questions answered, particularly during these times."

"Taking an online class helps to take your focus off of what is going on in the world and provides hope for the future by helping you refocus on writing and the joy and satisfaction it can offer you and your audience."

"When I signed up for this class, it was an in-person class. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a very positive experience."
