Hieu Craft Seminar Temp Graphic

Long before the first line, the poem begins. In this generative writing seminar, we’ll explore the creative scaffolding that precedes drafting by studying how contemporary poets gather, shape, and transform the materials of their daily lives. Through close readings, we’ll borrow craft strategies from poems that welcome the world in, paying attention to how observation, image, association, and structure can reintroduce us to the world we thought we knew.

Through guided writing prompts and generative exercises we will bring these techniques into practice, experimenting with new ways of collecting fragments, following curiosities, and discovering poems hidden in our surroundings.

Poets of experience level welcome. This class reemphasizes process as a craft. Participants will leave with fresh drafts and fresh strategies for sustaining a creative practice.
