ClassCreative Process Class: Writing Memorable Characters
This craft intensive offers engaging exercises and discussion to inspire memorable characters. Whatever form of writing you’re working on (fiction, poetry, memoir, screenwriting, etc.), bring your work-in-progress or start something new to this class.
We use improv exercises, discuss comedic archetypes and spiritual archetypes, mythology and folklore, demographics and personality types, and other prompts to generate details for your characters. We discuss characters we know in our real lives through different points of view to ground our writing and avoid stereotypes. By putting your character in different scenarios, you’ll get to know your character more deeply.
Physical movement and exploration of embodying characters is encouraged. Focused generative writing time is provided in the class and worksheets provide further exploratory writing after this craft intensive. Verbal feedback is provided by the instructor. Bring curiosity. For all levels.
