ClassGo Rococo: Bring the Benefits of Maximalism to Your Work
Who’s to say Strunk & White were right when they wrote, “omit needless words”? Why limit yourself in the limitless world of words? You can always cut to the quick later. In this short workshop, let’s linger in slow, long, and lush language. By pushing your sentence structure beyond the typical breaking point, you might discover what it is you really want to say. Whether you’re already as rococo a writer as there is, or a spartan, there’s much to be learned from experimenting with maximalism. We’ll read samples of spare and spacious writing as inspiration. Then we wordsmith! Let’s forge run-on, fiery sentences and bend grammar to our will. Poets, prosaists, and hybridists welcome. By the end of the class, you’ll have generated new work with opulent language and spirited syntax. Let’s quench your thirst for thesauruses and leave the editing for later. Ready your verbosity and vocabulary and come craft your own elements of style.
