Class8-Week: Making the Space for Poetry in Our World
In this 8-week poetry class, we'll read and write together. We'll discuss many poems written by diverse and extraordinary poets, both living and dead. Students will write and turn in as many poems as they wish. All work will be read—fellow students and the teaching artist will provide feedback.
At the first session, many poems and writing exercises will be presented. At the subsequent 7 sessions, we'll focus on sharing and workshopping, as well as reading and discussing handouts on poetry craft.
We will work with appropriate speed and cover a lot of ground each class. The poets we'll study cross the boundaries and borders of race, gender, nationality, class, age, and aesthetics. Poetry, the great art form, will be honored in each class with passion, civility, and intelligence.
This class is best suited to intermediate poets—those who possess basic knowledge of poetry, including metaphor and simile, persona and personification, and line breaks and stanza.
All Classes listed on the Loft website take place in Central Standard Time (CST); make sure you understand your time zone, and adjust accordingly
