Class8-Week Workshop: Trust Your Writing
In writing we trust: We want readers to trust the writer and writers to trust the story. For that, writers have to trust their process. But how can you when you're not sure what you're doing? This class offers guidelines giving you secure footing to navigate writing or revising a full draft, regardless of the genre in which you are working. Learn the dos and don'ts of writing character descriptions and dialogue in determining the essential action for all those showing up in your story
Too often new writers underuse setting to the story's advantage. Find out what editors need to see for story place and atmosphere. Learn what's needed to build tension and to eke all the story out of your story. Get tips to harness the power of point of view in your narrative. Discover best practices in writing endings to strengthen yours. These essential guidelines are designed to help you better engage in your writing and, perhaps more importantly, help you trust your writing process to give you the confidence to complete your manuscript.
Each student will have the chance to workshop their writing. Separate from class, the teaching artist provides a private half-hour consult with each student.
$5 copy fee payable to the teaching artist due first class.
