Sonnets have been around, since, well, Petrarch invented them in the 13th century. In the 21st century they are still compelling--as a formal puzzle, a container for a love poem, and a fun way to challenge your storytelling and nimbleness with language. The sonnet can build your literary muscles with rhyme, diction, description, precision, and more.

Join us to go over the "rules" and study how a few good sonnets work. The teaching artist will offer helpful insights, discuss revision, and show how some "broken" sonnets can be saved. You’ll leave with a solid start on your own sonnet, and have a better understanding of the form.
