Creative Process with Brain

Are you experiencing writer’s block? Started an exciting new project but now feel stuck, unsure which direction to head in next? This class invites you to see your creativity as something that is always present, but which takes different forms throughout the creative process. Like the seasons of the year, the creative process has its phases—planning and brainstorming; generating material; revision; and letting the piece rest. In this class we’ll explore and learn to appreciate these distinct phases and allow our critical reflections to breathe new life into existing projects.

Participants should have an in-process short writing project to bring to the course. We will reflect on and thoughtfully revise these pieces, workshop them, and generate a plan for next steps. We will workshop as a group and participants will receive verbal in-class feedback from peers. Most of our class time will be devoted to in-class discussion and writing. Existing writing projects should be short in form—several poems, a short story, or a personal essay (all no more than 8 pages).

This class takes place in-person, at the Loft at Open Book; we encourage participants to be fully vaccinated and masked in the interest of everyone’s safety. Please see the Loft’s website for the most up to date information about the Loft’s COVID policies.
