ClassRe-Seeing and Revising: Crafting Style and Joy in the Writing Process
We spend a lot of time producing text, generating story lines, character development, plot. And once that’s done, arguably, the more difficult work begins: revisions, rewriting, re-seeing our sentences, honing our style. There are hundreds of craft books that all basically say similar things: avoid clichés, use original metaphors or similes, show not tell.
In this class, we will explore ways to do that individually and in community. We will engage in exercises exploring revision strategies as well as read a short essay on practice. Students will leave with a few practical approaches to sentence revision as well as a reminder to find joy in the process.
This class takes place in-person, at the Loft at Open Book; we encourage participants to be fully vaccinated and masked in the interest of everyone’s safety. Please see the Loft’s website for the most up to date information about the Loft’s COVID policies.
