Hilal Isler is the author of the forthcoming short story collection, Har Mar Superstar . She is a recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Jerome, MacDowell, and Yaddo foundations. She is a winner of a 2023 McKnight Fellowship in Creative Prose; a Periplus Collective

Kao Kalia Yang is a Hmong American teacher, speaker, and writer. Her work crosses audiences and genres. 2023 McKnight Reading Creative Prose Featuring Naomi Cohn, Hilal Isler, Gen Del Raye, and Kao Kalia Yang

We are so proud of our 2023 McKnight fellows in creative prose! Naomi Cohn's memoir, The Braille Encyclopedia (Rose Metal Press), is forthcoming as is Hilal Isler's short story collection, Har Mar Superstar! Gen Del Raye's debut short story collection, Boundless Deep, and Other Stories (University of Nebraska Press, 2023), won the Raz/Shumaker Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Fiction, and Kao Kalia Yang published her memoir, Where Rivers Part (Atria Books, 2024).
