Throughout this course we will examine the craft of writing about nature paying special attention to context, causality, setting, and theme. We will examine works of nature writing from a diverse group of writers and poet such as Terry Tempest Williams, Gwen Nell Westerman, and Ada Limón and examine the craft choices they make when writing about nature. Then each week we will apply what we have learned by writing our own pieces of nature writing, and workshopping them in an equitable and respectful manner, so that we can help one another grow as writers. Written feedback will be provided each week by teaching artist and will be shared via email with participants. Additionally each week there will be a writing prompt and in class writing time to respond to the prompt; sharing what is written during in class writing time is optional.

No class on July 2.
