As writers, sometimes the task of staring down a blank page and beginning a new piece seems less daunting than opening an existing draft of a poem. Why do we shy away from editing? What about the editing process seems to drain us of our energy and leave us unsure of how to continue? How can we, as dedicated writers, push past the anxieties of editing in order to finalize a poem?

In this three-week class, participants will learn new techniques for engaging with previous work, gain fruitful insight into finishing poems, and discover healthy, positive mindsets to dispel negative, paralyzing notions of revision.

Each two-hour class is composed of poetry samples from a wide-array of artists (such as Leila Chatti, francine j. harris, Monica Ong, and more), new revision techniques, and ample editing time. This class is designed to give busy writers substantial, focused editing and writing time, regardless of one’s profession or writing background. Consider this class a reliable accountability partner. Each week, participants will be asked to bring 1 unfinished poem to class to work on. Work will remain private, unless volunteered to be shared.

This class is best suited to those who have at least a few poems they want to work on and can bring them to class.

No class July 3.
