In this class we are going to think about how poems create worlds. How do you select, craft, and imagine the particular parts of an environment or landscape that will leave a lasting impact on your reader's mind? While this class will focus specifically on poetry, it is a useful course for all writers to explore. We will start our course by thinking about how poems engage with and create resonant environments through imagery, but we will move into different kinds of "worlds" poems can create: thinking through the uses of voice, repetition, syntax, and tone. We will think about how poems can built their worlds across groupings of poems and sequences. You will share poems ("workshop") with the group twice during the course and are encouraged to share groupings of poems with the hopes of building a larger cohesive work or sequence.

No class July 4.
