There's a lot to be said about the critical perspectives that womanhood offers us on matters of power. In this class, while craft techniques are universal to all writers, we will study the various writing techniques that women speculative fiction writers use to create tangible new worlds. A 6-week class, we will spend class time critically analyzing passages, with special focus on craft choices, and writing to focused prompts inspired by our discussions. Students can share and receive feedback from peers and the teaching artist at the end of writing time. Students are expected to read between classes (the reading load will be manageable in respect to your lives outside of class). The finalized book list is to be determined, though do know that we will commit to reading the works of at least three women, mostly BIPOC and including transwomen, and the books will be a mix of older and contemporary literature. Lastly, this Zoom class is available to all who are interested, both locally and globally, though folks should know that this is an anti-racist space that will center voices in the margins.

No class on July 2.
